The Improving Health, Digital, and Innovation Literacy Levels among the Older Population in Thailand and Lao PDR (IHDILL) Project, supported by the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI) and led by SUPA71 Co., Ltd., Thailand, is advancing Phase I of its implementation across study sites in Thailand and Lao PDR.
The project is implemented in collaboration with the Faculty of Nursing, Khon Kaen University (KKU); the School of Health Science, Mae Fah Luang University (MFU); and the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (Lao TPHI), Ministry of Health, Lao PDR.
Phase I uses a mixed-methods approach to assess health, digital, and innovation literacy among older adults and their family caregivers across three study areas in Khon Kaen and Chiang Rai Provinces, Thailand, and Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR.
Quantitative surveys with older adults and family caregivers were conducted between July and August 2026 across the three study sites. Qualitative activities, including key informant interviews (KIIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) with community members and relevant stakeholders, are continuing and are expected to be completed by the end of September 2026.
Implementation has been undertaken in close coordination with local health facilities, health personnel, village health volunteers, community leaders, students, data collectors, and other relevant local stakeholders. Their engagement has been instrumental in facilitating field activities and ensuring that the research reflects the diverse contexts, experiences, and needs of older adults and their family caregivers in participating communities.
The findings from Phase I will provide evidence on current levels, gaps, and needs related to health, digital, and innovation literacy among older adults and their family caregivers in Thailand and Lao PDR. The evidence generated will inform the next phase of the project, including the development of context-appropriate health education content, communication materials, and inclusive innovations to support healthy and active ageing.
