SUPA71 participates in a Regional One Health Training
The SUPA71 team, represented by Dr. Kanokwan Suwannarong and Dr. Cecile Lantican, participated in the “Regional Short Course for Health, Allied Health, and Collaborating Professionals” that was conducted by the College of Public Health (CPH) at the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) in Manila from February 26 to 27, 2025.
This regional short course was offered to local and international health, allied health, and collaborating professionals as part of their continuing professional development. By introducing One Health and its importance to a multidisciplinary group of professionals, this course provided a venue for interaction and discussion on the interrelationships between and among human health, animal health and environmental health. Resource speakers shared information on applying the One Health approach to address current public health challenges, including antimicrobial resistance, zoonoses disease transmission, food security and safety, and the influence of climate change on these issues.
At closing of the last day session, participants acknowledged that the training was a significant step in strengthening the competencies of health professionals and addressing public health issues in Southeast Asia region, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes of people. They also recognized the networking opportunities they experienced — having the chance to connect with peers, experts, and faculty, facilitating knowledge exchange and forging professional relationships through research, teaching and training toward improving the quality of health care.
SUPA71 expects that this experience will open engagement opportunities and collaboration with significant stakeholders in the Philippines in the near future.
